placeholder

The sheep's milk yogourt from Fromagerie La Moutonnière, called Royogourt, can be ordered directly through our online shop with delivery across Quebec, or picked up in person at one of our two addresses in Sainte-Hélène-de-Chester. It's the only yogourt in our lineup, made with the same sheep's milk as our cheeses.
Royogourt, our sheep's milk yogourt
At Fromagerie La Moutonnière, sheep's milk isn't reserved for cheese alone. Royogourt has been part of our catalogue for a long time, alongside our fetas and our ricotta. It's a yogourt made with the same milk used to produce our firm and soft cheeses, which gives it a creamier texture and a different taste than what you'd typically find with cow's milk.
Royogourt stands apart from our other products: unlike the Sein d'Hélène, which combines sheep's milk and cow's milk, it's made exclusively from our sheep's milk.
Where to find sheep's milk yogourt
Royogourt is available in three main ways:
- Through our online shop, where you can order it along with the rest of your cheese order.
- For pickup at one of our two addresses in Sainte-Hélène-de-Chester, if you'd rather come get your order yourself.
- At select retailers that carry our products in fine grocery stores or specialty cheese shops, depending on the region.
If you're passing through Centre-du-Québec, visiting the cheese dairy remains the simplest way to discover our whole range of sheep's milk products in one stop, yogourt included.
How to order it online
Ordering online works the same way as it does for our cheeses: you add Royogourt to your cart from our online shop, choose between delivery or pickup, then complete your order. Since it's a refrigerated product, it's a good idea to check the delivery timelines when placing your order to make sure it arrives in good condition.
For people putting together a cheese board or hosting guests, it's often a great chance to pair the yogourt with a selection of our cheeses, so you can taste the full range of flavours sheep's milk has to offer.
Sheep's milk yogourt and digestion: what we can honestly say
Many people who have trouble digesting cow's milk products look into sheep's milk hoping it will solve the problem. Let's be clear here: sheep's milk contains lactose, just like cow's milk does. It is not a lactose-free product.
What Tommy at the cheese dairy often tells people who ask is that sheep's milk can be a good compromise for some people, though it's not a guarantee or a solution for everyone. If you have a diagnosed intolerance or allergy, the best approach is still to talk to a healthcare professional before adding sheep's milk to your diet.
How to serve and store Royogourt
Royogourt can be enjoyed like any plain yogourt: at breakfast, as a snack, or as a base for a sauce or dressing. Its texture, richer than cow's milk yogourt, also makes it a great pairing with fruit or honey.
Once opened, keep it refrigerated and consume it within the timeframe indicated on the packaging, as with any fresh dairy product.
